Airtel partners Lagos State to celebrate 2016 International Youth Day

Leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, has partnered with the Lagos State Ministry of Youth & Social Development to commemorate the 2016 International Youth Day in line with its commitment to empower youth and create platforms to help them achieve their dreams.

Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Youth & Social Development, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasumu; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth & Social Development, Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola and Director, Corporate Communications & CSR, Airtel Nigeria, Emeka Oparah at the leadership training conference organised for youths by Lagos State Government in partnership with Airtel to commemorate the 2016 International Youth Day, held at Alausa, Lagos, yesterday. With the theme, ‘The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production,’the annual International Youth Day is a day designated by the United Nations (UN) to enable governments all over the world draw attention to issues surrounding youths. As its support to the State Government, the telco facilitated a one-day Leadership Training Workshop held at Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) building, Nurudeen Olowopopo Way, Alausa, Ikeja on Wednesday 17th August 2016. Flagging off the workshop, Director of Corporate Communications& CSR, Airtel Nigeria, Emeka Oparah, noted thatthe company is passionate about creating opportunities to empower Nigerian youths and committed to partnering with relevant governmental agencies in helping young Nigerians actualize their goals and fulfil their professional and business endeavours. According to him, Airtel is renowned for its support for talented youths through critically acclaimed platforms and interventions such as its Adopt-a-School programme, Touching Lives, Airtel Rising Stars, The Voice Nigeria and several health initiative in the adopted schools targeted at Nigerian youths. “We are a business that caters to theneed of youths in aspects of innovation and sustainability. Airtel believes that the youth will be in the forefront in eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development in the country. “Therefore, we pledge as a youth brand to continually creating avenues and services that will help Nigerian youths fulfil their dreams and realize their full potentials,” Oparah explained. In her submission, the Honourable Commissioner of Youth & Social Development, Lagos State, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, said the present administration has put in place youth-friendly programmes and policies designed to promote youth empowerment. According to Akinbile-Yusuf, who was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Nigeria’s population comprises high number of youth, forming a critical human resource and asset to the country. He urged the youth to go the extra-mile and contribute to relevant issues and activities that will impact Nigeria positively. Shealso applauded Airtel for its contribution towards youth empowerment in Lagos and Nigeria at large. Also at the workshop were Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Youth & Social Development, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasumu; Director of the Ministry, Mr. Idowu Ademosun among other directors from the ministries. The programme, which attracted young people from various schools in Lagos, featured series of interactive leadership discourses and training.
